Problem
With poverty and inflation rising, students in Groningen needed a way to depend less on money. Pouring more money in cannot solve every problem; needing less of it can solve some.
Solution
coup is a mobile marketplace with its own currency. You build a wallet by giving away or reselling what you have, or by redeeming partner deals, then spend it on what others offer. Nothing to top up, free to join, one codebase for iOS and Android. Behind the app sit a web admin for the team and a Postgres backend on Supabase; the marketing site, thecoup.nl, was built together with coup’s marketing lead.
Results
Live on the App Store and Google Play. Nineteen partner venues in Groningen, from cafés to a bike shop, offer deals inside the app.
